Elmira Wan began
her USGS career in 1985 in Menlo Park, CA. In 1990, she began working on the
Tephrochronology Project and now oversees the Project and Laboratory. She
received her B.A. in Geology from C.U.N.Y., Hunter College, and her graduate
degree in Paleontology from U.C. Berkeley with emphasis on Cenozoic planktic
foraminiferal biostratigraphy and paleoceanography. She has conducted
tephrochronologic and micropaleontologic research for multidisciplinary studies
on marine, lacustrine, and terrestrial sites mostly from the Pacific margin and
western U.S. She has also been involved in studies in the central U.S. to the
Eastern Seaboard, in Central and South America, the Canadian Arctic, the Gulf of
Aden, and El Kef, Tunisia.
