Dale A. Winkler is the Director of the Shuler Museum of Paleontology, and Research Professor in the Huffington Department of Earth Sciences at Southern Methodist University. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Geology from the University of Michigan, and Ph.D. in Geological Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin. His major research interests are Mesozoic and Cenozoic terrestrial ecosystems and tetrapods. Of particular interest are the studies of paleoecology through the use of taphonomy and sedimentology, and the evolution of mammals. He has worked extensively on Early Cretaceous strata in Africa and in Texas.
